Class RD – Year 2

Welcome to class 2 RD!!

Welcome Back! I trust you had a restful December holiday! Term 2 will be an exciting one culminating in our Year 2s going on their first school camp!

This term we will be implementing our Read, Write Inc. programme which will support the children in developing their phonics, reading and writing skills.

Curriculum Overview Jan 18

This term our topic is The Great Fire of London, children will learn prepare and present questions related to the fire, developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills. They will be creating houses and then can burn them down, supporting their ideas and thinking related to the Great Fire of London.

In Math, we will explore and understand numbers up to 100 and beyond. Problem solving will play a key element in our learning and we will focus on children being able to explain and discuss their mathematical understanding. Number bonds and multiplication tables will be crucial in developing their number confidence and understanding.

In Art, we will create 3-D Tudor houses and sketch different styles of buildings. We will also focus on drawing self-portraits using a range of art materials.

English, will focus on Talk for Writing where we will learn about traditional tales, using adjectives to enhance our writing and develop an excellent understanding of parts of speech.

Science, will focus on Animals including Humans, learning about different types of animals and their lifecycles. Children will learn to conduct investigations and develop their scientific vocabulary.

Parents will be invited into the classroom to share in their children’s learning and you are welcome to read a story, present an activity or share a special story with our class!
